The kennel is constructed from tanalised pressure-treated timber to guard against rot, insects and decay, clad in 12mm (16mm nominal) tongue and groove shiplap for a traditional finish and added weather resistance. The roof uses structurally sound OSB sheets under a heavy-duty polyester felt covering, while the runs are fitted with strong galvanised panels for ventilation, visibility and dependable containment. Panels are screwed rather than nailed for strength and easier replacement.

A level, solid surface gives the best result for sheds and larger storage units — concrete slab, paving flags, or a pressure-treated timber base all work. Storage boxes sit on any level paved or decked surface. If the ground isn't level, panels won't line up cleanly and the unit won't be fully weathertight.
